How to build a sales dashboard from Excel

A practical guide to turning a spreadsheet export into a sales dashboard with KPIs, charts and a PDF your team will read.

Most sales dashboards die in Excel because formatting eats the week. Here is a faster path: upload your export, bind fields once, and export a designed PDF.

What you need in your spreadsheet

At minimum, include these columns:

  • Date — order date or week ending
  • Revenue — net sales amount
  • Product or category — SKU, product name or category

Optional but useful: region, channel, units, rep name.

Step 1: Clean your export

Remove blank rows, ensure dates are consistent, and keep headers in row one. MyReportStudio detects types automatically — currency, dates and numbers.

Step 2: Choose the Sales Dashboard template

In the create wizard, pick Sales Dashboard. You get pre-placed KPI cards, a trend chart and a product table.

Step 3: Bind your columns

Open the data panel and drag:

  • Revenue → KPI card (sum)
  • Date → line chart X axis
  • Revenue → line chart value
  • Product → table rows

Step 4: Export and repeat

Download PDF for your weekly review. Next week, upload a new file — bindings reconnect if column names match.

Tips for better dashboards

  1. One metric per KPI card — don't cram multiple numbers.
  2. Limit chart series — top 5 products beats 50 thin lines.
  3. Add context — a short summary paragraph helps executives.
